Remove Open Apps from Dock

Seems I’m turning into a Apple Blog here but nonetheless I like the stuff and not only want to share it but also want hear what others think.

When the App Store launched it rekindled my curiosity to figure out how to remove open and running icons from the dock. It was rather a simple search to figure out. Actually I thought for sure I was going to have to do some risky work in the Terminal to remove certain Apps but that wasn’t the case.

I did a simple search for “Remove Open Application from Dock” and I ended up with a large list of blog posts on the issue. Near the top was this MacRumors thread on the issue. Reading through I found that there are Applications for such processes. The first is a program sounded great, but I can’t seem to get it to work. It is called DockDodger that supposable allows you to just drag and drop an application in to it box to remove it from the dock. In theory it would be great, but again I couldn’t get it to work.

The application I did get to work though, is Dockless, which is also recommended in that forum thread.

Dockless Application

Dockless is simple and lives in your Application folder. It presents a screen with a list of all of your applications and simple by unchecking the ones you don’t want to appear will do the trick. If you have the application currently open though you will need to relaunch it. Dockless also has some other functions as you can see by the buttons, but I have yet to use them. Once done all you need to do is close the window.

Simple and easy. Is this an application that you can benefit from?

If one merely right mouse clicks on any application icon in the dock, one is presented with a set of options.. including “Remove from Dock”

But George, One would realize, that one can not do with and still keep said application open/running, which was the whole point of the post.
